Fantastic DAC/Amp — transparent, powerful, and refined
The DX5 II delivers exceptional performance for its price. It’s clean, quiet, and effortless, with no coloration — exactly what a transparent DAC/amp should sound like. Dual ES9039Q2M chips give it impressive dynamic range, and both the balanced 4.4 mm and XLR outputs drive demanding headphones with ease.Build quality is excellent, the display is crisp, and the remote control makes daily use convenient. The USB input locks instantly, and it handles 24-bit/192 kHz and DSD playback flawlessly from a Mac.I’ve owned other DAC/amps in this class, but the DX5 II stands out for its combination of neutrality, drive, and low noise floor — it simply disappears and lets the music speak. What’s in the box?Topping DX5 II, remote (no batteries included), power cable (note has internal power supply), Bluetooth cable, USB A to USB B cable, headphone adapter.What does it do?A DAC converts the digital information on a CD, MP3 or other digital audio file into sound information that can be played on a speaker or headphones. The Customizable DAC for Discerning Listeners
I had a DAC, but my daughter and I like to share music, her on a pair of Phillips SHP9500 headphones and me on Sennheiser HD560S. So I needed a 2nd headphone amp and zeroed in on the Topping DX5ii programmable DAC because of it’s glorious screen and powerful headphone amp. I had heard of Topping but never thought I’d be able to afford any of their stuff. This one went on sale for $50 off open box and I saw the 2-birds-1-stone opportunity.I’m using all the inputs – a WiiM Ultra music streamer on Coax, a Pioneer DV-525 CD transport on optical, USB for Samsung phone, and bluetooth from the Hisense TV. I have this hooked up to a rather fancy Gishelli Labs Archel 3 pro headphone amp with SparkOs chipsets. It’s a wonderful pairing. Electric guitar strings are other worldly. I use balanced output cables to connect to the headphone amp to double voltage output for my harder to drive 120ohm Sennheiser headphones (keeps the volume know closer to noon than max).How it looks:The bar graph analyzer is cool. The VU meter is neat. The unit in all black is sleek looking. It sits perfectly on the Wiim Ultra streamer.How it feels:The volume/control knob steps neatly from one volume setting or menu option to the next perfectly – perfect tactile feel.How it sounds:Glorious. Absolutely killer. Now let’s get this out of the way: this doesn’t sound as good out of the box as my Douk Q11 did (a much less pretentious piece). Here’s why: The DX5ii is customizable, and if you can take 90 minutes, you can make it sound way better than the competition. But you need to put in that time. If you’ve never had an external DAC, maybe you wouldn’t know, but the hope is you’ll explore. Let’s get into that.To customize the unit and setup your own EQ Profiles, you’ll need the Topping Tune app. It takes a few minutes to get used to but isn’t rocket science. I used Microsoft CoPilot / Chat GPT to get some advice on the numbers to put in and it turned out to be great. And customized to the sound profiles of my headphones!There are PCM filters which smooth out the sign-wave of sounds after conversion from digital to analog. The differences are subtle, and you could just leave it at default and be pleased, but if you like warm, tones try F2, F5, F7 or F8. Maybe F6. For picking apart a studio performance, F4. Favor F2 for live performances. All that said, I play with that setting constantly but end up parked on F5.The advance options are worth looking into. I love the part where you can reduce the number of input and output options. You can also make the EQ settings or volume track with inputs or outputs. It really saves time.

Well built, Clinical pure sound, supports balance headphones
I purchased the Topping DX5 II DAC out of impulse after watching a YouTube review, I wanted a spare DAC for my office and the moment I heard the sound I was blown away by the sound quality and clarity, how is little monster able to beat my $4k Lynx Hilo 2? this is under $300!!! The sound is clinical but absolutely pure and beautiful, TOPPING I am getting a second one because this one is going to stay home , Thank You !!!

Incredible value
Honestly surprised how good this is. I don’t know anything else that can beat it at this price.Sound quality is great, many inputs/outputs, lots of power, built-in PEQ without overpaying was a huge thing for me. So many features with such great clean neutral sound that lets your headphones shine (can also connect speakers). I have some nitpicks about their windows app for EQ, but insignificant.The only problem I have so far is that saved EQ profiles on the amp itself disappear when you power it off. I believe they are aware and working on it, but so far I have to set them there every time I turn it on or just open the app and turn on the ones saved in the app itself.

What a fantastic piece of technology. But before getting there, I was positively surprised by its outstanding packaging. It got shipped a few days ago from China and arrived safely today in the UK. Topping’s DX5 ii is simply mind blowing – well worth the wait. The last time I’ve listened to high quality music was in my dad’s 1987 Technics Hi-Fi stereo (unbelievable how we forget how music should really sound). It comfortably fits on my desktop and the sound quality is fantastic. It is already the best upgrade I’ve made for my PC this year. There is plenty of good information out there on how to set it up and fine tune your preferred headphones or speakers using any one of its many input/output options. Definitely good value for money, assuming it will last for long time given its quality build (fingers crossed).

DX7 Proが不安定になったため、買い換えました。主に接続している機器はSENNHEISER IE900、HD660S2です。なんといっても、特筆すべきはPEQでしょうか。箱だし直後は正直好みの音では無かったですが、ハーマンカーブのプリセットをChatGPTに出力してもらい、適用するとドストライクな音になりました。そのままだと音割れ気味だったので「Preamp: -5.0 dB」しています。その他の機能も充実しており、この値段で大丈夫なのか心配になるほどです。一点だけ躓いたのが無音状態から音を出した時のポップノイズです。TOPPINGの公式サイトから「V5.74 driver for most of TOPPING DACs」をインストールする事で解決しました。

Amazing sounding bit of kit.So long as you are willing to put the time and effort into tuning it via the app, you will get the sound that you want whether its for music , film or gaming.I’ve used with FIIO JT1, HD660s, and IEMs (TruthEar Nova)I’ve also added my schiit Jotunheim in the chain to it which gives it an extra punch.
